NASA Swift Telescope to Re-enter Earth's Atmosphere
NASA's Swift space observatory is set to fall back to Earth. South Korea's space agency says Korea will not be affected. NDTV reports that the 1.5-tonne telescope could scatter debris in a possible zone that includes Mumbai and Hyderabad, so residents there are watching the updates.
Context
Context: Swift is a NASA telescope launched in 2004 to study gamma-ray bursts, and it is old enough that its orbit is decaying. Most spacecraft burn up on re-entry, but large pieces can sometimes reach the ground.
