Tamil Nadu Plans Social Justice Survey Alongside Census
Tamil Nadu's TVK-led government has moved to hold a Social Justice Survey. The survey has an open column where people can state their caste during the second phase of the Census, due in most parts of the country in February next year. Several parties and other stakeholders have raised concerns about how useful the information will be.

Context: The Census is India's official count of its population, and it was delayed from 2021. Caste was not counted in the last full census, and the new round will include it for the first time.
