Karnataka voter roll check may leave 64.5 lakh out
An official ratio released by Karnataka's chief electoral officer suggests about 64.5 lakh electors may be missing from the voter rolls. Most of them are young, with about 38.41 lakh aged 18 to 29. The findings point to under-enrolment, meaning many eligible people are not on the list.
ContextContext: SIR, or Special Intensive Revision, is an Election Commission exercise to update voter rolls across states. Names left off the rolls can stop eligible people from voting, which is why the count matters.
