Satellite Shows Bhutan Glacial Lake Shrank 73% After Flood
A satellite study by a Noida-based geospatial company finds a lake in Bhutan has shrunk by 73 per cent after a glacial lake outburst flood, known as a GLOF. A nearby supraglacial lake remains substantially larger than its 2016 size.

Context: A GLOF happens when a glacial lake bursts through its natural barrier, sending water and debris rushing downstream. Glaciers in the Himalayas are changing, and such floods are a growing concern for mountain communities in the region.
