Punjab opens women's open air jail in Patiala
Punjab's jail minister inaugurated a women's open air jail in Patiala. The report gives few details about the facility, such as how many inmates it will hold or when it will start full operations. It adds a dedicated space for women prisoners in the state.
ContextContext: Open air jails are facilities where selected prisoners can work outdoors with fewer walls, and some states use them to help inmates prepare for life after release. Women make up a small share of India's prison population, so separate facilities for them are a notable step.
