WHO Urged to Review Drinking Water Nitrate Limits
A letter was sent to the World Health Organization, which sets global guidance on drinking water quality. It warns that surface water models show hundreds of millions of people worldwide are exposed to elevated nitrate levels. The letter asks the agency to review its drinking water standards on nitrates.
Context
Context: Nitrate in water mostly comes from fertiliser and animal waste that drains into rivers and groundwater. High levels in drinking water are linked to health risks, especially for infants, and WHO guidelines are used by many national regulators.
