Florida Sank Retired Tanks as Artificial Reefs
In 1994, Florida placed seven retired M60 tanks on the seafloor off Pensacola to act as artificial reefs. The project involved careful preparation before the tanks went underwater. A 2000 inspection found the tanks still in their original positions, and marine life benefits from the structures, the report says.
