Athirappilly Forest Land Lease to Be Surveyed
Officials will survey leased forest land at Athirappilly in Kerala amid disputes over whether it blocks an elephant corridor. The forest department opposes a proposal by Plantation Corporation of Kerala to renew the lease and take over more land. It cites lease violations, including private agencies being used for pineapple farming on the land.
Context
Context: Athirappilly lies in Thrissur district and is known for its waterfall and rich forests. Elephant corridors are routes that wild elephants use to move between forest areas, so blocking them can lead to human-elephant conflict.
