Alphabet shares fall after profit miss and ad slowdown
Alphabet, Google's parent company, reported that its net profit fell 25 percent from a year earlier to $26.2 billion for July to September. Earnings were $2.12 per share, and its shares dropped after the profit miss and an ad slowdown, pulling Asian and US stock futures lower.
ContextContext: Alphabet owns Google, YouTube and the Android system, and its income comes mostly from online advertising. Slower ad spending can therefore hit its results quickly, and big tech stock moves often ripple into Indian markets.
