Bangladesh Agrees New Garment Pay Scale From December
Bangladesh has agreed to a new pay scale for garment workers starting in December, after protests. Workers want the monthly minimum wage raised to 30,000 taka, about $242, from 12,500 taka. They say rising food, housing and transport costs have reduced what their wages can buy.
Context
Context: Garments are a major export for Bangladesh and employ a very large workforce, so wage talks there affect global clothing supply chains, including brands that also source from India.
