Puri Files Nomination for Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sabha Seat
Union Minister Puri has filed his nomination papers for a Rajya Sabha byelection in Madhya Pradesh. The BJP has fielded him for the seat vacated by L. Murugan, who resigned from the Union Government and the Upper House earlier this month. Murugan's term was due to end in April 2030.
Context
Rajya Sabha is the Upper House of Parliament, and its members are elected by state legislatures rather than directly by voters. When a seat falls vacant mid-term, a byelection is held to fill it only for the rest of that term.
