Hyderabad Groundwater Falls by One Metre in a Single Month
Groundwater levels in and around Hyderabad dropped by about one metre in a single month, according to the latest readings. The deepest level within the Telangana Outer Ring Road area was recorded in Kukatpally, while Shaikpet had the shallowest. That is a sharp fall for just one month.
Context
Groundwater is the water stored underground in soil and rock, and Hyderabad uses it alongside lakes and piped supply. Falling levels usually mean wells run dry sooner and pumping costs more, especially in the hot months.
