Telangana Plans ₹20,000-Crore Push to Cool Its Cities
Telangana is preparing a ₹20,000-crore pipeline of projects and policy steps to get its cities ready for hotter temperatures and irregular rainfall. The plan covers bamboo shelters and cool roofs, waste reclamation, sewage treatment and digital monitoring of water supply. The State is still drawing up the plan, which pairs its projects with new policy measures.
Context
Indian cities, especially large ones, have seen hotter summers and more irregular rains in recent years, partly because of concrete-heavy growth. Cool roofs and shaded spaces are common ways to cut indoor heat, and Hyderabad, the state capital, is a major city.
