Cabinet Clears Rs 14,500 Crore Scheme for Battery Storage
The Cabinet has approved a viability gap funding scheme worth Rs 14,500 crore. It aims to support 92 GWh of energy storage capacity across three technologies: battery energy storage systems, pumped storage projects and emerging storage technologies. The scheme is meant to help these projects get built.
Context
Context: Solar and wind power generate electricity only at certain times, so storage helps keep supply steady when the sun sets or the wind drops. Viability gap funding is government support that tops up project costs so private developers can invest.
