US Approves Sale of 500 Patriot Missiles to Ukraine
The United States has approved the sale of 500 Patriot missiles to Ukraine. According to the report, these American-made interceptors are currently the only effective weapon for downing Russian ballistic missiles. The report frames the deal around that single point, so the approval carries weight for Ukraine's air defence.
Context
Context: Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022 and has involved frequent missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities. Patriot is a US-made air defence system, so arms decisions like this one are closely watched by Ukraine and its allies.
