Karnataka seizes 17.78 lakh kg of PDS grain amid drought
Karnataka has seized 17.78 lakh kg of public distribution system grains and arrested 215 people in three months, during a drought. A minister warned that anyone hoarding rice or selling it in the black market to profit from recent price rises will face action.
ContextContext: The PDS is India's subsidised food ration scheme, which sells grains at low prices to eligible families. Drought and hoarding can push up prices of everyday staples, which is why states act against diversion of ration grain.
