Tamil Nadu Approves ₹2,000 Crore for Vetri Laptop Scheme
Chief Minister Vijay has ordered ₹2,000 crore to start the Vetri Laptop Scheme. Students in first and second year of undergraduate and diploma courses at government and government-aided colleges in the 2026-27 academic year will be eligible for laptops.
Context
Context: Tamil Nadu has run free laptop schemes for students before, starting in 2011, so this is a new version of a long-running state programme. The scheme targets students in government and government-aided colleges, not all students in the state.
