Northeast Districts Have Their Own Job Migration Routes South
A survey by a Guwahati-based non-profit found that some northeast districts have their own migration corridors for jobs in southern India. Across three states, 91% of respondents named a push factor, such as too little farmland or the need to repay loans, as a reason for leaving.
Context
Many people from India's northeast have long moved to other parts of the country for work, and small farms and debt are common reasons cited in such studies.
