Fighting Resumes in Kherson After Longest Ukraine Ceasefire
Fighting has resumed in Ukraine's Kherson region after a six-day truce, which was described as unprecedented for a ceasefire in this war. The pause did little to change the wider direction of a war that continues to grind on. It is a reminder that a short pause does not mean an end to the fighting.
Context
Kherson is a southern Ukrainian region on the Dnipro river, which Russian forces occupied in early 2022 before Ukraine recaptured it in late 2022. Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, and a lasting peace deal has not yet been reached.
