The Union Cabinet has approved a package worth ₹25,473 crore spread across four sectors. It also approved a two-year extension of the Second Tour of Duty for Agniveers, the young recruits who serve under the Agnipath military scheme on short-term contracts. Context: Agnipath was launched in 2022 to recruit young people into the armed forces for four-year terms, with only a portion kept on permanently. The Second Tour of Duty is a follow-on period offered to those who finish their first term.
