India's Population Census Begins January 2027
India's population census will run from January 25 to February 28, 2027, with March 1 set as the reference date. People can fill in their own details from January 10 to 24 before house-to-house counting begins. Some poll-going states and snow-bound regions have been left out of this phase.

Context: A census counts every person and household, and governments use the results to plan schools, roads, health services and seats in Parliament. The reference date is the moment whose population counts are recorded.
