Tamil Nadu Identifies 20 Sites for Housing Reconstruction
The Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board has picked 20 sites across the state for reconstruction. It has asked residents of dilapidated tenements to vacate their homes.
Context
Tenements are multi-family housing blocks built by government bodies for low-income families, and many are old and unsafe. Rebuilding aging blocks usually requires residents to move out first while construction takes place.
