Nuclear Regulator Says Private Firms Can Join Safely
The chairperson of AERB, the regulator that oversees nuclear safety, said it will create an enabling environment for private sector participation in nuclear energy. Safety will not be compromised, the chairperson said, as the government welcomes private players under the SHANTI Act.
Context
The SHANTI Act is a 2025 law that opened India's nuclear power sector, once run mainly by the state, to private companies. AERB, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, checks that reactors and plants meet safety rules.
