Karnataka Tests Find Higher Ethanol Levels in Petrol
Lab tests done for the Karnataka government found the ethanol content in some petrol as much as 31% higher than the 20% E20 blend. The state's food and consumer affairs minister wants oil marketing companies penalised and an E20 spoilage fund created to compensate consumers.
Context
India has been raising the share of ethanol in petrol, and E20 (20% ethanol) is now common at pumps. Oil marketing companies such as IOC, BPCL and HPCL sell this fuel, so complaints about blend levels affect both consumers and fuel makers.
