Supreme Court Declines Full Disclosure of Fund Investors
The Supreme Court declined to order full public disclosure of the ultimate beneficiaries behind Alternative Investment Funds and Foreign Portfolio Investors, saying there is no legal framework for it yet. A petition by an MP raised transparency concerns as these funds grow fast. The court asked why she did not raise the issue in Parliament instead.
ContextContext: Alternative Investment Funds pool money from investors for other ventures, while Foreign Portfolio Investors are overseas investors who buy Indian shares and bonds. Article 32 lets citizens approach the Supreme Court directly to enforce fundamental rights.
