MNS Cancels Mumbai Dipotsav Amid Maharashtra Drought
Raj Thackeray, chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, has cancelled this year's Dipotsav celebration in Mumbai because of a severe drought. He asked citizens to celebrate Diwali with restraint, keeping farmers' hardship in mind. The state government has declared 85 percent of Maharashtra drought-hit.
Context
Dipotsav is a Diwali festival of lights organised by the MNS in Mumbai. Drought means poor harvests and less water, so farmers and rural families feel its effects first and most.
