UK RAF base found with worst chemical contamination
Testing at RAF Upper Heyford has found levels of polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, that a report calls unacceptable. According to the report, the contamination at the base is the worst in the UK.
ContextContext: PFAS are often called forever chemicals because they break down very slowly and can build up in soil, water and the body. Such contamination often comes from past use of firefighting foam on military sites, which has led to cleanups across several countries.
